Support for bereavement, grief, and loss
Grief is a natural and normal human experience. It can also be incredibly painful, disorienting and confusing, and can fundamentally affect our sense of self. Lewes Bereavement Counselling was founded to help people cope with experiences of bereavement, grief and loss. My aim in our sessions is to help you feel less alone in your grief; for you to feel listened to and understood; and to have a space where you can express your grief and speak freely about your loss and the person who has died.

There is no wrong way to grieve, but there are some behaviours and practices which can stabilise and support us in our grief, including strategies for coping when it feels overwhelming. We can discuss these in our sessions to find out what will work for you.

I work with adults of 18 years and older who have experienced a bereavement or other significant loss, whether recently or in the past. This can include the death of a partner, family member, friend, colleague or loved one; the death of a beloved pet; or other major life losses affecting sense of self and identity.
Sometimes, grief can be unexpectedly awakened years later, or we may start to become aware of how a loss has affected us and shaped our lives and personalities. I can support you to explore and understand these difficult experiences and complex feelings.

My approach and background
My name is Danny and I'm a person-centred counsellor specialising in supporting the bereaved. Person-centred counselling provides a compassionate and caring environment, where you can speak freely and we can explore your experiences, thoughts, and feelings. Being understood by another can help us understand ourselves better, and in this way the therapeutic relationship can be a catalyst for growth and positive change.

I am a Member of the BACP (British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy) with a Distinction in Humanistic Psychotherapeutic Counselling at postgraduate level (PGDip, University of Brighton). I have both volunteered and worked at a local hospice, providing bereavement support to members of the community.
I also have expertise in supporting clients with issues around identity and sexuality, and many years’ experience providing advice, guidance and emotional support in higher education settings, including as a Mental Health and Autism Spectrum Advisor and a Disability Advisor.
Sessions and fees
Online counselling
As an online counsellor I work with clients from Lewes, Brighton, and nationwide. I meet clients via Zoom, which is free to download. This means you can receive counselling in your own home or another place of your choosing. Clients will need to be in a quiet, private space where they can meet without interruption for 50 minutes. For people who are worried or apprehensive about counselling, meeting online can help reduce anxiety, especially at first meeting.
Fees
Online counselling sessions cost £60 per session (50 minutes). I am able to offer a limited number of low-cost sessions per week priced at £30 for students, people who are unwaged, or those on a low income. Please contact me via email or my contact form to enquire about availability.
First meeting
Initial sessions last 50 minutes and are priced at £60 (or £30 for low-cost sessions), the same price as a standard weekly session. At the end of the session we will discuss whether you want to continue meeting, and if so we will look at a counselling contract together.
Frequency of sessions
I work in a flexible way depending on the needs of each client. Some clients just want to come for one session; others come for a block of six sessions; and others want to work in an open-ended way for several months or more. This is up to you and I am happy to discuss what works best for you. Sessions take place at the same time each week.
